"Sweetness" Office Project

"Sweetness" is a St. Louis based bakery, specializing in cake designs. The company is in the process of expanding their company by renovating the first floor of an old bank, into their new office space. This new space will house the following functions and employees: small reception and grab-n-go baked goods area, display showroom, conference room, tasting room/staging area, CEO and CFO private offices, open offices to house administrative assistant, bookkeeper, website technician, and three 800 number technicians, small break room, storage area, and mail room. All areas are ADA accessible and utilize commercially graded materials.

Challenges for this design were meeting required adjancies, space planning of systems furniture, and the customer's wayfinding through the space. My solution for these challenges was to develop an open floor concept which allowed employees to work closely and interactively while allowing the front of the space to be dedicated to customer consultations and needs.

My concept: The interior will take on a modern approach to looking through time. The goal for the office is to inspire new and current clients through a naturally bigger than life sensation, which will be implemented through natural materials and natural daylight.

Wall Type Study

The purpose of the project was to demonstrate an understanding of the construction of a two-hour fire rated, demising wall. The wall serves the function of two tenants; a hair salon on one side and a pizza shop on the other.

The relief model exhibits the materials depicted on the series of study sketches. These materials include: metal studs, insulation, two layers of drywall, and the finished wall surface.

The wall type study is displayed in three phases; the built model, study sketches, and a computer generated model.

Digital Restaurant

This graphic representation was completely crafted with the computer graphic software 3D Studio Max. The class was an introduction to architectural visualization where majority of the semester was focused on the modeling of objects with the addition of textures, materials, and lighting during the last weeks.

Numerous images are displayed through various camera angles and a range of lighting scenarios to represent several different times of day.

Monumental Stair Design

The purpose of this project was to incorporate a reception desk and a monumental stair design into an existing commercial floor plan. The staircase meets ADA requirements for circulation, clearances, and means of egress.

Specific calculations were made to determine the rise and tread of each stair, the number of stairs required, and hand and guard rail heights. The stair design is code compliant to the 2006 International Building Code in headroom, stair treads and risers, stairway landings, hand rails, and railing design.

This stair differs from a service stair because of its aesthetic design, exposed stretchers, and an open floor concept and location. Materials of the staircase and railing include stainless steel, concrete, slip resistant ceramic tile, and frosted glass panels.

Bathroom Design

The Foster's master bathroom represents a tranquil beach atmosphere where they can age in place. The ambiance of living at the beach is displayed through a light blue and pearl white color scheme with hardware and fixtures that include a wave motif.

The project challenge was to provide a safe, functional, and adaptable space for the Foster family. Functional features include plenty of storage, a separate soaking tub and shower, toilet separated from the lavatory, a vanity with stool, and the addition of a pocket door to provide privacy from the master bedroom. Safety bars are placed at the toilet, shower, and tub for easy access. The new design is a safe and functional space where the Fosters can enjoy their ocean view and beautiful home.

The bathroom is ADA compliant and was designed to meet and exceed NKBA guidelines.
